Understanding your options starts with asking the right questions.
Let’s Talk About Your GoalsWhat is Indexed Universal Life insurance?
Indexed Universal Life is permanent life insurance that provides death-benefit protection and may accumulate cash value using one or more interest-crediting strategies tied to the performance of a market index.
Does an IUL invest my money directly in the stock market?
No. Indexed Universal Life insurance is an insurance product. The policy does not directly invest your cash value in the underlying market index.
Can I lose money in an IUL?
An indexed account may have a stated crediting floor, but that does not mean the overall policy cannot lose value. Insurance charges, fees, withdrawals, loans and insufficient funding can reduce policy values or cause a policy to lapse.
Is an IUL guaranteed to provide retirement income?
No. Non-guaranteed policy values depend on several assumptions and may differ from illustrated results. Any retirement-related strategy should be evaluated using the actual policy illustration and your individual financial circumstances.
Are policy loans tax-free?
Life insurance policies can receive favorable tax treatment under current law, but tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and how the policy is structured and maintained. Policy loans and withdrawals may have tax consequences, particularly if a policy lapses, is surrendered or becomes a Modified Endowment Contract. Consumers should consult their tax professional regarding their specific situation.
How much does an IUL cost?
Cost depends on factors including age, health, coverage amount, policy design, underwriting classification and funding strategy.
Do I have to purchase something after requesting information?
No. Requesting information creates no obligation to purchase insurance.
Will I have to complete underwriting?
Insurance availability and underwriting requirements depend upon the carrier, policy and coverage amount.
